MK Maj. Gen. (ret.) Yoav Galant

Minister of Construction and Housing

Maj. Gen. (ret.) Yoav Galant, was born in Yafo, and was raised and educated in Ramat Gan and Givatayim. Galant began his career in the Israel Defense Force (IDF) in 1977 as a naval commando in the 13th Flotilla in which he conducted several operational missions as a combat soldier, eventually becoming the 13th Flotilla's commander. In 1997, Galant moved up to command the Gaza Division, and in 1999, he commanded the reserve 340th Armored Division (Idan Formation). In the years 2001-2002, Galant became the Chief of Staff of the GOC Army Headquarters and in 2002 he attained the rank of a Major General when he became the Military Secretary of the late Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Between the years 2005-2010, Galant was commander of the Southern Command until he retired in 2010 from the IDF after 35 years of service. After his retirement, Galant was appointed executive director of an oil and natural gas exploration company.

During his career in the IDF and afterwards, Galant maintained his involvement in the community. He founded and was member of the Board of Directors of the Impact Foundation, served as Chairman of Friends of the Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization, was a board member of 'HaShomer HaChadash' (the New Guard), and member of the Board of Directors of MadaTech.In 2015, Galant joined the 'Kulanu' political party, and was placed second on the party's list for elections. In May 2015, he was appointed Minister of Construction and Housing.Minister Galant is a member of "the Housing Cabinet", observer of "Security Policy Cabinet", is on the ministerial committee for Immigration and Absorption, the ministerial committee for Development of the Negev and the Galilee, and more. Galant has a BA in Economic and Business from Haifa University, and a graduate from the executive Business program at Harvard University. He lives in Moshav Amikam, and is married with three children.
