Philip Gordon is the Mary and David Boies senior fellow in U.S. foreign policy at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and a senior advisor at Albright Stonebridge Group. Prior to joining CFR, Gordon served on the National Security Council as Special Assistant to the President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf Region from 2013 to 2015. There, he worked closely with the president, secretary of state, and national security advisor on U.S. policy toward the entire region. From 2009 to 2013, Mr. Gordon served as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and was responsible for fifty countries in Europe and Eurasia, NATO, and the European Union. He has written numerous books and articles on U.S. foreign policy and the Middle East and writes regularly for publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, and Politico.
