Shuruk Ismail leads the Arab Community Program at Yad Hanadiv, which works to create equal opportunity for the Arab citizens of Israel. In this role she has guided a partnership with the Government and the JDC to set up 21 employment centers based in Arab communities. A significant aspect of this effort has been in the establishment of Alfanar – an Arab led NPO which manages the operation of the centers. Other efforts on behalf of the Arab community include a multi-year investment in developing learning resources for Arab speaking schoolchildren and a strategy to advance excellent Arab students in science and engineering. Most recently, Yad Hanadiv has been looking for opportunities to help build the capacity of Arab local authorities and the professionals who work in them.
Ms. Ismail joined Yad Hanadiv in 2006. She holds a B.A. in political science and education and an M.A. in education from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prior to joining Yad Hanadiv, she was employed for eight years as a researcher on health policy issues at the Brookdale institute.
